Use reward card terms consistently
Shared definitions reduce false agreement between merchant, provider, issuer, network, legal, security, operations, and Shopify implementation teams.
Card structure terms
Virtual and physical describe delivery form. Open-loop and closed-loop describe acceptance structure. Gift card, store credit, reward card, and prepaid card may carry different meanings depending on the product and applicable terms. Define each term in the program documents.
- Acceptance: where and under what conditions value may be used
- Issuer: the regulated entity identified as issuing the card
- Payment network: infrastructure and rules supporting eligible transactions
- Program provider: the entity coordinating agreed program services
Shopify program terms
Eligibility is the documented decision that an order meets the offer conditions. Order intake is the transfer or retrieval of relevant commerce events. A decision workflow evaluates those events. Fulfillment is the approved delivery of the promised reward experience.
Evaluation terms
A requirement describes a needed outcome or constraint. Evidence supports a claim. An assumption is treated as true for the analysis but remains unverified. A dependency is an external condition required for delivery. Total program cost applies all cost components to a common scenario.
